Courtney regularly uses her personal breastfeeding experience, along with evidence-based research, to help educate and support the families she works alongside.

Rebekah Scroggy, RN, BSN, IBCLC
Rebekah has been a Registered Nurse since January of 2018, and started her career as a pediatric ER nurse in a Level 1 Trauma center. Since 2020, Rebekah has received experience from virtual peer support to Community Health and working with WIC to currently working within the Hospital system as a Lactation Nurse. Her passion for helping parents become educated and supported as they begin (or continue!) their parenting journey is what led Rebekah to pursue and obtain her IBCLC. Rebekah has completed the Guiding Bottle Breakthroughs Class and is equipped to help parents break through bottle refusal.

Lactation Consultant
Kristen Smith, RN, IBCLC
Kristen is an experienced registered nurse beginning her career in 2015, shortly after having her first baby. After a year in the medical-surgical field, she realized she wanted to go into women’s health. In 2016, she transitioned to a NICU and Mother-Baby unit in Indiana. Kristen and her family relocated to North Carolina in 2017, where she began working on a Special Care Nursery and Mother-Baby unit until she took her most recent role as a lactation consultant in 2021. Kristen’s own breastfeeding journey began with breastfeeding her first child in 2015. That is when she first realized the need for support and education for breastfeeding moms. Her love for supporting the breastfeeding relationship further grew when she began her career working with mothers and babies in 2016. In 2020, she obtained her IBCLC and took a job as a lactation consultant in the hospital setting. She continues to work in the hospital setting in this role and enjoys helping moms and babies get off to the best start possible in their breastfeeding journey. As a lactation consultant, she wants to meet moms where they are, ask what their feeding goals are, and help them achieve them. She desires to give evidenced-based education, and support moms in their feeding decisions.

IBCLC Mentee
Bre Astel
Breanna has completed her training as a Lactation Counselor and is continuing her education to become an IBCLC. As she does so, she currently serves mothers and babies in clinical, home, and virtual settings. Breanna found a passion for infant and maternal health after welcoming two beautiful daughters into her own family. Although there were many people who were supportive of her desire to breastfeed, she lacked much of the knowledge to confront the common struggles that all breastfeeding moms face. Breanna recently delivered her third daughter and continually uses the knowledge she has acquired to create a wonderful breastfeeding experience for her. Breanna finds immense joy and fulfillment in helping mothers and infants at various stages of their breastfeeding journey reach their individual goals. As she continues her education and assists mothers and infants, she does so with the goal of making more dyads feel empowered, supported, and educated during their breastfeeding experience.

Alina Prado, RN, BSN
Alina is a Registered Nurse. She has four children and her own experiences with pumping, allergies, and ties have fueled her passion for helping mothers navigate their journey of lactation. IBCLC Mentee
Sara Wilson, Women's Health PA, CLC
Sara is a Physician Assistant in Women's Health, practicing since 2017, and is also a Certified Lactation Counselor. She has 2 beautiful girls with a third on the way, due in July 2024. Sara fell in love with breastfeeding and the science behind it after the birth of her first daughter. However, they had many difficulties early in their nursing journey including food intolerance, torticollis, and breast refusal, which led to transition to exclusively pumping, a successful option for them. In talking with other mothers about their breastfeeding experiences, Sara quickly learned there are obstacles to breastfeeding for many mothers, and getting the information and support needed is not nearly as accessible or simple as it should be. By the time Sara was pregnant with her second, she was passionate about learning more about lactation and helping breastfeeding families, leading her to complete her training to become a Lactation Counselor in 2021. She again encountered food intolerance and body tension issues with her second, but with more knowledge and support she was able to successfully nurse until 20 months postpartum. Since then, she has continued to further her lactation education and community involvement, including teaching local prenatal breastfeeding classes and providing online resources to breastfeeding families. She is now working to complete her training to become an IBCLC.
IBCLC Mentee
Sobia Zehri, RN, BSN, Postpartum Doula
Sobia Zehri has been working as a registered nurse since 2019. She has worked in different settings, but most recently has been working as a pediatric nurse at a Duke Children's outpatient clinic since 2022. She was inspired to become a postpartum doula in 2022 after seeing her sisters go through their own postpartum journeys. She saw how individualized each person's postpartum experience is and how there is a lack of support for families going through these transitions. Her goal was to be a compassionate support person to help her clients thrive and build a healthy foundation as they grow their families. She became more fascinated with breastfeeding as she saw her clients breastfeed and the challenges and questions they had. As she learned more about the topic, she realized how complex and beautiful breastfeeding is and decided to become an IBCLC. She is currently working towards her certification!
